CICLOG contributes to updating datasets in the new version of ecoinvent®
CICLOG contributes to the update of datasets in the new version of ecoinvent®. Version 3.6 was released on September 12, 2019.
UPDATING: The sixth update of the ecoinvent version 3 database features more than 2,200 new datasets, as well as 2,500 updated datasets. The data sets are related to agriculture, building materials, chemicals, electricity, fishing, metals, refineries, textiles, tourism, transportation, waste treatment and recycling and water supply. As a result, ecoinvent now includes 247 more products, new tools for the agriculture and waste treatment sectors and expands its geographical coverage in several countries and regions not previously covered, such as Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, India, Peru and South Africa (For more information, please visit: https://www.ecoinvent.org/database/ecoinvent-36/ecoinvent-36.html)
AS TO THE PROJECT: Centro Ecoinvent, as the main global supplier of transparent Life Cycle Inventory (ICV) data, jointly developed ICVs for the production of electricity in Latin America (Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Argentina) with associated parties . The main objective of the project was to establish and provide regional electricity production ICVs for use in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies, Environmental Product Declarations (DAP), Carbon Footprints and similar assessment tools.
REGARDING CICLOG PARTICIPATION: During 2017 and 2018, the CICLOG team searched exhaustively for information related to the Brazilian electricity sector, as well as its main environmental aspects in public, commercial, academic portals, among others. In total, 63 datasets were updated, which cover the five Brazilian regions (North, Northeast, Midwest, Southeast and South) considering all types of generation (coal-fired thermal, oil, natural gas and biomass; Hydraulic; Wind ; and, Nuclear) that make up the respective energy matrices. In addition to generation, the electricity transformation, distribution and import datasets were also updated.
Despite the energy required to carry out the entire project, the CICLOG team would like to highlight the happiness and satisfaction of having been able to contribute to the update of the datasets discussed here. It is extremely important for the group to be updated and active in the participation and development of the LCA methodology, as well as in related matters, as is the case presented here. In addition, the CICLOG team would like to thank EnCiclo Soluções Sustentáveis, a partner company that actively contributed to the development of datasets throughout the project's execution.
Good models!
